I was your typical American Christian. I went to church every Sunday, talked to my 30 second “friends”, and then went home. I am an introvert and don't like to get out of my comfort zone. But I was missing out on what “church” really is.
I have been attending CTK with my family for over three years now. About two years ago, my wife and I were asked to help out with High School Youth Ministry. Long story short, this past summer the group was placed in our laps. When I first started, the only qualification I had was that I could give one night each week to hang out with the youth. Over time, I have found that these kids are impacting my life more than I could have imagined. Being a part of this ministry has changed me…is changing me everyday.
What I’ve learned over that past couple years is this: by getting out of my comfort zone, and saying “sure” to something, I was able to truly experience what being part of a church family really means. I have built lasting relationships, not just within my ministry, but with my church family as a whole. I would have missed out on these relationships if I had stayed in my comfort zone. So my challenge to you is: just say sure....
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. James 1:22 (NLT)
