An old man told a story that one day he was watching this bighorn ram in the Salmon River wilderness. It decided to cross a great chasm, at least fifty feet wide. The chasm was deep—one slip would mean certain death for the ram. So this mighty ram studied the chasm carefully. Then he backed away about fifty yards, made a terrific run, and a great, arching leap out over the yawning abyss. He was almost to the other side when he realized he couldn’t quite make it, so he turned around and went back.
I wonder when it hit Jesus, there is no turning back. The cross had to lead to a resurrection or everything was a scam. Easter celebrates the day that made everything Jesus said make sense.
